As different types of wood feature different grain patterns, some furnishings are more sought-after than others. Oak wood, for instance, is preferred by vintage furniture collectors, because it is more porous than other types of wood. The stains and finished leave darker marks as they penetrate the pores, creating a very appealing look.

Oak is also excellent for making beautiful wood floors, but the price is usually too high to be worth it.

Maple has some intricate natural grain patterns that are revealed in the process of sanding and finishing furniture items. These unique characteristics make wood furniture the choice of so many homeowners who know that high-quality brings in the comfort they seek for.

Versatility is another interesting feature of wood furniture. You can purchase your furniture items finished, hand pained, hand finished or even unfinished. Collectors and connoisseurs of wood furniture prefer their items not painted. Nevertheless, painted wood furniture can make an interesting choice for children’s bedrooms.

Less Expensive Wood Furniture Doesn’t Need To Look Cheap

you can buy solid and durable wood furniture even if you are on a budget. Soft woods and hardwoods are among the less expensive options you should take a closer look at. Soft woods come from trees that hold their needles all year long, namely coniferous trees. Despite their name, some soft woods can be more durable than hardwoods, so don’t let this fool you when you shop around for furniture.

Alder Wood Furniture Helps You Choose Affordable Style For Every Room

The unique knots of alder wood show even through the finish. This hardwood doesn’t agree with moisture, thus being best for indoor spaces that are dry and cool. Being a lesser quality hardwood, alder is usually cheaper than other types of wood. In terms of looks, alder is very similar to cherry or maple wood. It allows for very smooth finish.

Maple Wood Furniture Is Yet Another Inexpensive Choice

Maple is a hardwood, just like alder, but more durable and heavier than this one. Its strength makes maple a great choice for bedroom furniture, as well as for bowling alley floors. Maple wood is resistant to moisture, this making it extremely durable. The rare burled and birds eye patterns made maple wood one of the most popular choices of American furniture makers in the early 1900s.

These pieces of furniture are considered highly collectible antiques. The naturally pale color of maple makes it suitable for any type of staining or painting.

Pine Wood Furniture Is Stunningly Beautiful And A Great Fit To Any Interior

Pine is a soft wood, and this means it is less durable than alder and maple. As pine is lightweight, furniture made of it is very easy to lift and move. Inexpensive and durable, pine wood is very resistant to shrinking and swelling. Eastern White, Ponderosa and Sugar Pine trees are among the most popular choices of furniture in the United States.

In order to achieve a smoother finish, pine wood requires a primer before painting or staining. Knotty pine works best for country style furniture.

High Quality Hardwoods Make High End Furniture

Wood grain furnishings and upholstered wood furniture require in-depth research and a savvy investment of time and money. High end wood furniture may be more expensive, but it will surely last a lifetime or even longer. You can rest assured that many generations in your family will be able to enjoy these furniture pieces.

Oak, cherry and mahogany wood furniture offers several customization options. You can choose your colors and shading, in order to be able to match the new furniture with your already existing interior decor or furnishings. Oak, mahogany and cherry wood furniture can be customized to suit your available space. If you have large rooms that call for oversized furniture items, this feature may come in very handy.

Cherry Wood Furniture Is Simply Charming

Cherry wood belongs to the hardwood category. This makes it strong and durable. Many antique furniture items are made from cherry wood and they look awesome today as they did one hundred years ago. It may occur that cherry woods and cherry stains for wood have a warm red hue which is quite pleasant to the eye.

The best thing about cherry wood furniture is that it matches nay other type of wood, so you can mix it with furnishings made from different woods and with different finishes. Cherry wood can make a nice addition to any style of decor.

Mahogany Wood Is As Elegant As Can Be

The deep reddish brown color of mahogany makes it extremely stylish. Mahogany wood furniture is very resistant to insects and it has the ability to repel moisture. This means that mahogany furniture may last for hundreds of years without problems. There are furniture manufacturers who specialize in working with mahogany wood to create high quality antique reproductions furnishings.

Oak Wood Is Always Fashionable

Oak is among the most popular wood choices. While red oak usually has a pink or reddish tinge, white oak has a green hue. Both of them can take stain very well. The best furniture pieces that are made from oak tend to be more expensive than other hardwoods, due to the mix of strength and beauty oak wood is famous for. Oak mixes nicely with other wood types, so you can safely add it to your interiors.

Walnut Wood Furniture Suits Both Homes And Offices

Walnut is also a hardwood. Famous for its strength and beauty, walnut is usually finished in a dark brown color. In fact, walnut shades range from white to brown, so you can have a lighter shade, if you want. It isn’t as heavy as maple, and this means it is easier to move around. Many office furnishings are made from walnut, thanks to its straight wood grain and has a special glow to it.

Why I personally love wood furniture

For me, wood brings nature into a space and warms it up. Having something like a wall of exposed brick with a nice thick slab wooden table is something very beautiful as well as relaxing to look at and be around. Wood is a natural substance, although we do need to cut down trees, there are tree farms created specifically for this.

And wooden furniture not only lasts forever, it’s also always worth something. If you buy some cheap pressboard desk from Ikea or something similar, in a year or two it’s worth nothing and just adds to the trash heap. But a wooden desk you use daily in your home office or den only becomes more valuable in time. And if it gets scratched, dented or even burnt, these “blemishes” only add character to the piece. Or they can be easily fixed unlike 99% of the cheap furniture made today.

And if you understand even a little about wooden furniture, you can always buy a solid wooden desk, table or dresser that is used but can be brought back to life easily at very reasonable prices. For me, wood or iron furniture is the only way to go.

And if worse comes to worse, There’s no need to hang on to old items like tables, dressers, or couches there are so many ways to do away with old furniture. If it’s wooden, I’ll come get it 😉
